Samantha received a specially trained dog named Juice
Samantha was diagnosed with a seizure disorder in third grade. With medication, the seizures were controlled until sixth grade when her seizures came more often and with greater severity. Because of this, Samantha was unable to attend school. Samantha was approved for an assist dog and after many fundraising efforts was able to procure a portion of the cost of the training. Juice is an amazing dog who has been trained as a seizure assist dog. Juice alerts Sami and others of an impending seizure. Juice has given Sami so much confidence that she is now beginning to enjoy her added ability to attend school.

Samantha's mother wrote this about Juice, "She is loveable, energetic, and quite smart. We are all so very thankful we found you as Sami's emotional well-being has taken a dramatic turn for the better since she has gotten her dog. Thanks again! :>

Our thanks go out to the fine folks at Midwest Assistance Dogs for helping Anna's Celebration of Life help Samantha celebrate life!"

A Mobility Assistance Dog to help Anna
Another day another dog. We are blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Anna and her family and the very wonderful "Blue." Our new found friend Anna and her mother contacted us in regards to the need for an assist dog to help Anna. On the day she was born, Anna had a stroke resulting in a brain injury that left her with limited use of her right side and an official diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy. Blue has been trained as a Mobility Assistance Dog. He has been trained to help Anna maneuver through crowds and provide support and stability on stairs. Blue has reduced Anna's anxiety in public settings. Blue attends school now with Anna, allowing her to return to school from her home school setting. Anna's mother tells us that Anna is delighted that her goal of having a helper dog has become a reality.

Anna received a Seizure Response Dog
August 2007 was a busy month for Anna's Celebration of Life. We had the good fortune of working with Midwest Assistance Dogs out of South Bend, Indiana. Midwest referred the lovely Anna to the foundation. Anna is a beautiful sophomore in high school who struggles with seizures. She worked with Midwest in the training of "Brittany," a seizure response dog. Brittany has been trained to watch over Anna, provide her with balance when she is weak, alert others when she has a seizure, and stay by her side and provide tactile stimulation to help her regain her composure, focus and recover more quickly from a bad seizure.

We heard from Midwest recently with an update on Anna and Brittany and were told that since they have been home, Annas has had several more seizures. In each case, Brittany has either placed herself between Anna and the edge of the bed or has laid on top of Anna to help ensure she won't fall out and then has licked her face, arms and hands to help her recover more quickly. Thank you to all of our supporters who are helping a young lady achieve some of her dreams to lead an independent life.

If you know of a child in need of our help or to find out more about how you can help us fulfill our mission, please contact Julie or Courtni.
